Mullen, Bauman lead

Incumbents advance to general election

PASCO — Despite political efforts to prevent two incumbent Franklin County Commissioners from retaining their seats, both are leading in the initial count of the Tuesday, Aug. 6, priamry election.

In the race for the Franklin County Commissioner District No. 1 seat, incumbent Stephen Bauman looks like he's headed to the general election at the top of the ticket.

Bauman collected 1,804 votes in the initial primary count Tuesday. Challen ger Caleb Atkins looks to likely finish second with 1,339 early votes.

Paul L. Frenzel received only 181 votes and will be eliminated from the race.

County election officials estimated they only had 48 votes left to count at the end of Tuesday, but more ballots are expected to arrive in the coming days to be counted prior to certification.

In the Commissioner District No. 2 race, incumbent Rocky Mullen nearly doubled up on the number of votes received by his challenger.

As of the end of counting Tuesday, Mullen had 769 votes; challenger Blanche Barajas collected only 424.

In recent months, both commissioners had been involved in a political row with county Sheriff Jim Raymond.

Adams County has 44,999 registered voters who received ballots; only 9,357 were returned. That's a voter turnout, so far, of only 20.79%

After late-arriving ballots are tallied, election results will be certified Aug. 20.
