Local tallies differ from state results
RITZVILLE — With almost all late-arriving ballots already counted, election results show a voter turnout of 31.07% in Adams County.
According to Adams County Elections Department figures, 2,522 ballots have been counted in Adams County; 8,117 were mailed to registered voters in 29 precincts.
Local voters favored Republicans in statewide races mostly won by Democrats in Western Washington.
In the U.S. Senate race, Dr. Raul Garcia, a Republican from Toppenish, was the top vote-getter here, receiving 1,042 votes. Incumbent Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Mountlake Terrace, was second in Adams County with 635 votes, a stark difference from statewide results.
In another reversal, Adams County voters preferred Republican Dave Reichert over Democrat Bob Ferguson. Reichert received 1,255 votes in Adams County and Ferguson received 353. Statewide, Ferguson received the most votes.
In the race for lieutenant governor, two Republicans paced the field in Adams County.
Here, Dan Matthews received 1,046 votes followed by Bob Hagglund with 640. The statewide winner, Democrat Denny Heck, was a distant third in Adams County with 342 votes.
Adams County voters also overwhelmingly supported challenger David Olson over incumbent Chris Reykdal in the race for state superintendent of public instruction.
Olson received 1,055 votes here, nearly double that of Reykdal, who receive 547 votes in Adams County.
In other statewide races, Adams County preferred Republican candidates over Democrats who won statewide, including the races for insurance commissioner, auditor and treasurer.
Final election results will be certified Aug. 20.
