Othello, Odessa eliminated

No area teams remain in playoffs

OTHELLO — The last football team from Adams County was eliminated from the playoffs Friday night, Nov. 15.

No. 8-seeded Othello was upended by No. 9-seeded Sehome, 22-21, on the Huskies’ home field in Class 2A playoffs.

The Huskies were leading 21-7 in the third quarter before Sehome junior quarterback Nolan Wright threw the first of two touchdown passes to Andre Watson.

The second Wright-to-Watson pass came with less than a minute remaining in the game and Othello leading 21-15. Grady Evans kicked the PAT to give the Sehome Mariners a 1-point victory.

The loss eliminated the Huskies (9-2) from the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Mariners (8-3) will play at No. 1-ranked Tumwater (11-0) at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, in the state quarterfinals.

Another nearby football team was also eliminated over the weekend.

Ranked No. 11 in Class 1B (8-man) football, Odessa (7-3) fell 52-12 to the No. 6-ranked Pomeroy Pirates.

Individual statistics were not reported.

Pomeroy (10-1) will face No. 3-ranked, undefeated Naselle (10-0) at 1 p.m. Saturday in the state 1B quarterfinals at South Bend High School in South Bend.
