Funds allocated for local organizations

RITZVILLE - Big Bend Electric Co-op's charitable arm announced several grants to organizations around the region on Dec. 19.

Caring Neighbors grants were awarded to groups in Othello, Lind, Ritzville, Mesa and other locations. The grants are funded from donations by co-op members who have authorized rounding their bills up to the nearest dollar.

The following grants were announced Dec. 19:

• Othello Church of the Nazarene (Helping Hands) -$2,000 to help fund emergency housing, utilities, transportation, counseling and other services for those in need.

• Hands 'N Paws - $500 to help fund spay and neuter clinics for cats.

• Lind PTO - $1,000 to assist in purchasing gifts for the Lind Little Peeps Christmas Store.

• Lind/Ritzville Cooperative Schools - $500 to help fund registration and housing costs for students attending the Washington State FCCLA Leadership Meeting.

• Mesa Elementary - $2,000 to help repair playground basketball court.

• Ritzville Volunteer Fire Dept - $2,500 to help purchase tools and rescue equipment.

• Washtucna School District - $1,000 to assist with funding communication device for students with disabilities.

• Othello Christmas Baskets - $1,500 to assist with purchasing items for baskets for those in need.
