RITZVILLE — The Broncos boys basketball team went 1-1 last week, falling to NE2B competitor Asotin, but edging Class 1A Connell
Against Connell on Dec. 21, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague (3-3) opened with a 20-15 first quarter lead and expanded the margin by outscoring the Eagles 22-12 in the second quarter.
At the half, the Broncos led 42-27.
The Eagles rallied in the second half, closing the gap by 8 points in the third quarter and 5 more in the fourth. But the rally wasn’t quite enough and the Broncos held on to edge the Eagles 65-63.
Senior Brody Boness led the Broncos with 25 points. Connell’s top scorer was Hunter VanHollebeke with 24.
Other Broncos putting points on the board include Cole Rouleau with 10, Damon Schilling with 7, Jerod Harder and Cameron Boness with 5 each and Beau Fode with 3. Jackson Price scored 11 for Connell, Carson Lloyd 5, Aaron Chanse and Maguire Young 2 each, Dalston Schwendiman 6 and Andy Castillo 13.
On Dec. 17 against undefeated Asotin, the Panthers opened with an 11-4 run in the first quarter and added another 21 points in the second quarter while holding the Broncos to just 12.
Each team put up 12 points in the third quarter.
In the final stanza, the Panthers scored 17 and the Broncos 16 for a final Asotin win, 61-44.
Fode led the Broncos with 14 points, followed by Harder and Zach Klein with 10 points each. Brody Boness added 5, Brix Curtis 4 and Rouleau 1.
Asotin’s Cody Ellis and A.J. Olerich led all scorers with 16 points each for the Panthers.
The Broncos take the court next at 6:30 p.m., hosting River View in Gilson Gymnasium.
